Fiber Gratings in Nanostructured Sapphire Optical Fiber (NSOF): Device Architectures and Fabrication Methods

Case ID:
FY15-015
Web Published:
7/30/2018
Description:

Grating structures within anodized aluminum oxide-clad nanostructured sapphire or silica optical fiber, and techniques for fabricating such grating structures. The grating structures may be Bragg gratings or long-period gratings. The grating structures may exhibit high sensitivity to index of refraction of the surroundings, which can be used for sensing of parameters including temperature, pressure, stress, strain, and chemical composition. The fibers including the grating structures may be suitable for use in harsh environments.
